Dime size frag of Mystery TieDye/Jawbreaker mushroom coral. This dime size polyp is bright neon orange, some are more gold depending on the lighting. The red has not color in yet. Photo is representative of frag available and is NOT intended for WYSIWYG.

The original mother mushroom imported to USA was named Jawbreaker. When it dropped the first baby, my son-in-law’s younger brothers picked up from the first owner, who was a good friend of mine. The mother was later sold to Rommel at UltimateFrags (no longer in business) and then resold to the mid-west and the latest owner renamed the coral Mystery TieDye mushroom when he took ownership. There are at least two other Jawbreakers in the CA Bay Area that is not of this lineage and they are smaller (only gets to about 2″-3″) and just neon orange and red. The original lineage will color green as early as 18 months, more more common around 3 to 4 years. As for purple, most TieDye/Jawbreaker polyps never develop that color. Not sure if it takes more than 10 years to develop or only some polyps get that color. So, whether the Jawbreaker and TieDye is one and the same, it depends on the lineage that you purchase from. There is a new Vietnam Jawbreaker released in 2013, so that is another new lineage from a complete different source and is quite different, although the Vietnam version has some nice colors.

This jawbreaker mushroom coral frag is one of the great granddaughters of the original Mystery TieDye/Jawbreaker mushroom mother imported originally to South Bay. This lineage leads back to over 7 years history and we have one of the largest colonies as we did not sell a single frag until after keeping this colony for 6 years. Only local pickups have the opportunity of seeing the mother colony as we don’t release photos or allow photos of the mother colony. So, when you buy one of our Jawbreaker mushroom polyps, you are buying from a 7 year old colony from the very first offspring.
